There are many titanium alloy machining shops, but few truly deliver. Choosing the wrong one can lead to parts deformation or six-month delays in delivery. With over a decade in the industry, we've compiled five practical selection criteria that will make you a seasoned expert.
First, the equipment must be robust. Many shops claim to have CNC machines, but titanium machining requires high-end equipment. The spindle must be powerful (speeds above 20,000 rpm are more stable), the cooling system must be more than ordinary (high-pressure water jets or liquid nitrogen cooling are required), and a coordinate measuring machine must be available for constant accuracy monitoring. If you find a shop with outdated machines, skip it.
Second, experience is essential. Don't just accept the manufacturer's boasts; ask them three questions directly: What is the thinnest CNC titanium part they've ever made? What are the differences in machining parameters for TC4 and TA2 titanium alloys? What titanium alloy orders have they received in the past two years? If they can't answer, they likely lack experience. Genuine CNC machining titanium factories will proactively share customer case studies.
Third, quality inspections must be rigorous. Simply telling you "we have quality inspections" isn't enough; the key is to see how they actually do it. A good Chinese titanium CNC machining manufacturer will keep samples of each batch of parts, perform X-ray inspections, and record processing data. You can ask them, "How did you resolve the last problem with a titanium alloy part?" A manufacturer that speaks can be more trustworthy.
Fourth, provide attentive service. A good titanium machining company won't just "machine according to the drawing" but will ask additional questions: Where is the part used? Does it require surface treatment? Do you want help optimizing the design? If a manufacturer simply provides a quote without any advice, you may face numerous problems later.
Finally, the price should be reasonable. Titanium alloy machining is expensive, but the more expensive, the better. When negotiating, you can request to provide your own raw materials or have the manufacturer show you tool wear data. It's best to pay a 30% deposit upfront and the balance after inspection to avoid pitfalls.
